Programmed by Columbus-based filmmaker and writer Claudia Owusu, this month’s Cinéseries program gathers an intimate collection of short films meditating on Black girlhood.

Taken from Ntozake Shange’s poem of the same title, A Laying on of Hands brings together independent shorts that tease the introversions of Black girlhood, contemplating the seeded laments that pulse through the dreams, spirituality, and lineage of Black girls. A Laying on of Hands invites viewers to examine the heft of the stories we inherit and their effects on how we negotiate our place in the world. Full program to come. (program approx. 180 mins., DCP)
