Meghadootam is a ballet based on the great Sanskrit poet Kalidasa's epic work Meghaduta, in which a yaksa, a subject of King Kubera (the god of wealth), has been exiled for a year to Mount Ramagiri for neglecting his duties. The yaksa pines for his wife, and convinces a passing cloud to take a message to her by describing the many beautiful sights the cloud will see on its way.
