Dan McGeehan and Susan Apker, two local playwrights who have seen their scripts produced nationwide, present an evening of their favorite original short plays. The six plays, which run about 10 minutes each, are fully cast and will be performed by a troupe of actors. McGeehan, a noted artist and illustrator, made his playwriting debut in Tulsa with the performance of "A Long Trip" in the 2012 version of Heller Shorts. The play has since been produced throughout the United States and will soon have its Canadian debut. The story of a life-long love affair, "A Long Trip" was one of the most performed short plays of 2014 and was included in the anthology "The Best American Short Plays of 2013-2014." "The Rosebird Egress," a story of a small-town sheriff with a tragic past, will have two additional premieres around the country in June, in addition to its inclusion in “On Our Own.” "Paladora," the struggle to find love and understanding in an imperfect family and a difficult world, was first presented at the Method and Madness Festival in Denton, Texas, in 2014. Apker is president of the Heller Theatre Company Board of Directors and has produced the Heller Shorts Festival for the past six years. She began taking her writing seriously eight years ago and has had short plays produced across the country and in Canada. Apker will have three Tulsa premieres in “On Our Own.” "The Eiffel Truth, a Parisian fairy tale, has been produced five times across the country from Hawaii to Stillwater. "The Commemorative," the most recent of her short plays, explores family dynamics with a splash of good whisky. "The Sitting" premiered in Santa Fe two years ago and looks in on an artist and his elusive subject.
