Dr. Bora Lee began the study of the piano at age 5. She moved to Moscow, Russia, at age 14, later graduating from Gnessin State Musical College with an Honors Diploma. After she came to the United States, she earned a B.M. from Oberlin College (2008) and two M.M. degrees from Indiana University (2010) and The University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign (2015) with dean’s talent scholarships and full tuition waivers. In 2013, she received a D.M.A. from The University of Illinois with full tuition waivers. Her doctoral document was entitled “Nikolai Kapustin: A Stylistic and Pedagogical Approach to Selected Piano Works.” For her piano playing, she won prizes at the Konzerteum International Piano Competition in Greece and the Rovere d’Oro Prize International Piano Competition in San Bartolomeo al Mare, Italy. Dr. Lee has performed many solo and chamber recitals in France, Italy, Japan, Korea, and the United States. She had debut solo recitals at Young San Hall in 2008 and Seoul Art Center in 2015, both in Seoul, South Korea. Also, she participated in and performed at Gala Concerts at the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival, Italy (2006, 2007, and 2013). She has taken master classes with Seymour Bernstein, Jonathan Biss, Andrei Diev, Ian Hobson, Vassily Lobanov, Mikhail Voskresensky, and other top pianists. She has accompanied for various instruments, singers, and choruses. Notably, she has played and served as the main pianist for 20 years in various churches for choirs and praise teams in Korea, Russia, and the United States. In addition to her own solo performance pursuits, she has attended and given presentations at various international music conferences and workshops, such as the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy 2015, KKAP Symposium (Korea Association of Piano Pedagogy), the Piano Teachers’ Forum of Grand Rapids, and the Illinois State Music Teachers Association. She has been an active member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) since 2012. She served as Instructional Coordinator for the Piano Laboratory Program (UIUC School of Music Outreach Program) and as a master/lead teacher for piano majors, observing and supervising all instruction as well as coordinating teaching assignments among the teaching staff. She also taught group piano classes at The University of Illinois in 2010–11, and served as an accompanying and teaching assistant in 2011—15. This concert will be piano solo and chamber music as well. Special guests collaborating with Dr. Lee are Dr. Hayoung Lim, Cello (Oral Roberts University, Associate Professor of Music, Director of Music Therapy), Dr. John Jenkins, Trombone (Oral Roberts University, Assistant Professor - Instrumental Coordinator and Orchestra/Wind Ensemble Director), Dr. Michelle Price, Soprano (Oral Roberts University, Adjunct Vocal Instructor) and Dr. Ronald Chioldi, Piano (Northeastern State University, Professor of Piano).
