Saturday Night Live alum Kristen Wiig plays Alice Krieg, a woman with borderline personality disorder who lives in an apartment stuffed with swan statues, lottery tickets, and old VHS recordings of Oprah – most of which she’s memorized. But when she wins the Mega-Millions lottery, Alice decides she wants to do “something big” with her life: she immediately quits her psychiatric meds and buys her own talk show. Never mind that she has no ideas for the show, other than it be about her, that it be two hours long, and that she enters on a swan boat. The producers think it’s ridiculous, but Alice has the cash and is able to find partners: two brothers whose own infomercial production business has fallen on hard times. Much to everyone’s surprise, the show – filled with re-enactments of Alice’s childhood, off-beat cooking segments and downright disturbing animal segments – inexplicably begins to build a following of viewers eager to witness the train-wreck spectacle. But Alice’s larger-than-life personality and obsession with being famous soon begins to alienate her friends and family.
