The streets of modern Istanbul bustle with movement at every scale. People go about their business as they do in every city: meeting each other, heading to work, strolling the markets, living their lives. But there are stories woven into urban existence that don't begin and end with the people. Hundreds of thousands of stray cats roam the alleyways and thoroughfares of Istanbul at all hours of every day, and their lives and adventures intersect with the people and communities there in fascinating, complicated ways. Kedi is the story of a few of those cats, each with its own name, personality and habits, as they are followed on their daily meanderings through a vibrant city at the gateway between the East and the West. The city belongs to the cats as much as it does the people, and the patterns and memories of their lives have lessons for all of us trying to navigate history and urban culture in our own time.
