Life’s hard in Russia, even for mice. In the middle of a Hanukkah celebration, Fievel Mousekewitz and the rest of his family are torn from their home by evil cats and sent on an adventure in New York City. They soon find out that, contrary to their folk tales, America has cats too, and its streets are not paved with cheese. Poor little Fievel, separated from his family and thrust into political and social crisis, must make friends with the locals and find his way back to his loved ones. Full of “cat”chy songs and wonderful vocal performances by such stars as Christopher Plummer and Dom DeLuise, Don Bluth’s An American Tail puts a gripping and inspiring family story in the middle of an insightful historical allegory.
