THE JOLLY CORKS tells the story of the rollicking founders of the Elks which has lasted 147 years.When the London Music Hall Star, Charles Vivian arrives in New York, in 1867, he meets a group of freewheeling musicians, actors and songwriters, bawdy bar lady, Mabel Freelady and the adventurously demure, Imogene Holbrook. This is a community of energized artists and soldiers who have just survived the Civil War and helped to abolish slavery. Richard Stierly, the local rascal, then befriends Vivian, and together they re-ignite the British Jolly Corks Club of fun loving imbibing rakes. But, their lives change when threatened by a severe prohibition tax that will close down, Mrs. Geisman’s Free and Easy Saloon. When they defeat this excise prohibition tax, their purpose becomes more clear.They will use their camaraderie to create something more meaningful, more purposeful for humanity. When Carleton the battle-fatigued young Union soldier succumbs to his battle injuries, The Jolly Corks realize their purpose. It is to create a benevolent organization to protect community, support the under served, and honor wounded warriors.This is a fascinating comic MUSICAL, a fun-loving journey filled with energetic dance, Traditional American Music and purpose.
