In a pair of TFO debuts, conductor Josep Caballé-Domenech and violinist Simone Porter join the orchestra to perform Mendelssohn’s highly popular Violin Concerto. Belonging to the composer’s so-called London Symphonies, the program also includes Haydn’s Symphony No. 96, “The Miracle,” and Shostakovich’s rather spirited Symphony No. 9, which is punctuated with musical twists, turns and surprises .
