One Hundred Years After Lewis and Clark

Event Phone: (509) 456-3931
Admission Price: $9
Many events and changes have affected the indigenous Nez Perce Plateau people since they discovered Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery in September 1805 at Weippe Prairie. This talk, led by Nez Perce tribal elder and author Allen Pinkham, explores the clash and affect which took place between two vastly different cultures, nearly one hundred years after the Nez Perce’s historic encounter with the Corps of Discovery. This was also a time in United States history when American photographer and ethnologist Edward S. Curtis, whose work focused on the American West and Native American peoples, was working in the belief that he was in a desperate race against time to document (with film, sound and scholarship), the North American Indian before white expansion and the federal government destroyed what remained of their traditional way of life.
There are no events happening in the near future.
