Conference on Texas Kicks off with Texas Trailblazers Luncheon
Get engaged at the 3rd annual Conference on Texas: Bravery and Resilience, Past, Present, and Future, this year combined with the 9th Annual Texas Trailblazers Luncheon in partnership with Texas Monthly. This year the Witte Museum will take a deeper dive into Texas’ future and its past.
Join us on April 30 at the Texas Trailblazers Luncheon honoring Graham Weston, a visionary who has helped to revitalize San Antonio’s city center. Learn more about what we can do to ensure a bright future for Texas with featured speaker Tom Luce, Founder of the Texas 2036 initiative.
Then hear fascinating stories of Bravery and Resilience at the Conference on Texas on Thursday afternoon with sessions covering various subjects on the past 100 years of Texas history, including: Prohibition, Border Tequila and German Home Brews; Women’s Suffrage and Race: Raise Your Chins and Face the Fight; Will Hogg and Mental Hygiene: From Insane Asylums to Centers for Wellness; Brawling Politics: Texans Stand Up to the Klan; American Dreamers: Mexican Journalists Immigrate to Texas in the 1920’s; Flying Suffragettes: Katherine and Margery Stinson.
Day 2 of the Conference will begin in the morning with: Overcoming Crushing Texas Justice: The Goree Girl Bands at Huntsville; Fashion that Roared and Flappers; Chafing Under the Collar of U.S. Radiowaves: Renegade Border Broadcasting; Anthony F. Lucas and Spindletop: Savant Oil Drilling.
Don’t miss the concluding session with an informal lunch with special panel on the Texas Liberators of German War Camps in WWII and second-generation survivors, in cooperation with the Jewish Federation of San Antonio on the 75th anniversary of liberation.
