The UTEP Dinner Theatre was founded in 1983 with a production of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT entirely produced, designed and directed by students. In celebration of our roots, the UDT produces an off shoot production entity called SIDE DISH STUDENT PRODUCTIONS. Each year SDSP provides qualified student producers, designers and directors with funds and mentorship enabling them to mount a fully produced musical. These student productions are staged in a specially configured intimate black box setting inside the Dinner Theatre. There will not be any meals served for these productions. This project gives students another opportunity at UTEP to hone their skills and gives El Paso audiences a chance to see new and edgier fare that wouldn’t normally be produced at the UDT.
