There’s never a dull moment on board the International Space Station. Join Stefanie Contryman and Dr. Luis Zea for an evening that covers the who, what, why and “oh my” of conducting space life science research on board this habitable artificial satellite. Learn about the types of research BioServe Space Technologies supports and the interesting results observed to date. Hear about the unique challenges of conducting space life science research in a laboratory orbiting 150 miles above the Earth.

About the Speakers:

Stefanie Countryman, MA, MBA is the Associate Director of BioServe Space Technologies, an engineering and space life science research center located at the University of Colorado Boulder. MS. Countryman has worked for BioServe for the past 19 years and has been the Principal Investigator on several space life science research investigations.

Dr. Luis Zea is an aerospace engineer and gravitational biology scientist who has been involved in fourteen experiments performed on the Space Shuttle and/or International Space Station. These experiments encompass myriad fields of science, from searching for novel targets against drug-resistant bacteria to cancer research.
