In the story, “Peter Pan,” a free spirited boy who refuses to grow up, enters the Darling’s nursery in search of his shadow. With the help of fairy dust, the boy Peter (Betty Bronson) leads the three Darling children (Wendy, Peter and Michael) to the mythical island known as Neverland. Here they find adventure and meet fairies, mermaids, the Lost Boys and the nefarious Captain Hook (Ernest Torrence). In a struggle to rescue the Lost Boys from Hook’s capture, Peter Pan forces Hook to walk the plank and face his nemesis, the crocodile. Despite Peter’s disapproval, Wendy and the boys return to the Darling home, where Mrs. Darling offers to adopt him, but he refuses. Peter asks Wendy to return to Neverland with him, and it is agreed that Wendy will go back once a year to help Peter with his spring cleaning.
