In Bram Stoker's novel, DRACULA, Renfield is a Whitby mental patient, housed - barring periodic escapes - in a sanitarium. Telepathically enslaved by Dracula, he eats insects, and longs for larger prey, believing the creatures' blood will bring him eternal life. Though a lunatic, Renfield still recognizes Dracula's menace, and tries to warn others of the Count's sinister plans. Ultimately, he pays for this transgression with his life. Little is revealed of Renfield's backstory, and this is where SceneShop's upcoming production steps in
