In conjunction with the special exhibition The Polaroid Project, artist Ellen Carey will discuss her experimental work with Polaroid from the 1970s to the present. Her lecture will address a range of her images, including her earliest “selfies” to her breakthrough, abstract Pulls that use the large format Polaroid 20-by-24-inch camera and are included in the exhibition.
Carey is a photographer and lens-based artist, as well as an educator and independent scholar. Named one of the top ten photographers working in abstraction by Widewalls, Carey has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions. She lives and works in New York and Hartford, CT, where she is an associate professor of photography at the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford.
