Event Phone: (361) 825-3500
Admission Price: RSVP
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi along with the Historical Forum are hosting “Confederate Monuments and Memorials: Constructing Historical Memory and Myth” featuring Dr. Walter L. Buenger, Summerlee Foundation Chair in Texas History and Barbara Stuart Centennial Professor in Texas History at The University of Texas at Austin, as well as Chief Historian of the Texas State Historical Association. The talk will be held Tuesday, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Art Museum of South Texas, HEB Theatre, 1902 N. Shoreline Blvd. More about Buenger’s talk: Confederate Monuments and Memorials were installed between 1890 and 1960, long after the Civil War. Instead of accurately representing the past they were part of the construction of memories and myths that shored up and maintained white supremacy and scrubbed away the defense of slavery as the primary cause of the Civil War. The event is free and open to the public. For more information or to RSVP, email Elizabeth.cook@tamucc.edu.
There are no events happening in the near future.
