Jack Johnson, Hawaii’s sensational folk-rock artist is bringing his signature sounds to the PNC Music Pavilion!
Jack Hody Johnson was born in North Shore (Oahu, Hawaii) in 1975 and is a singer, songwriter, musician, actor, record producer, documentary filmmaker, and former professional surfer. His musical style can be best described as a blend of acoustic rock, folk-rock (a style that arose in the United States and the United Kingdom around the mid-1960s, pioneered by the Los Angeles band the Byrds, who began playing traditional folk music and songs by Bob Dylan with rock instrumentation, in a style heavily influenced by the Beatles and other British bands), soft rock, and surf rock (a subgenre of rock music associated with surf culture, particularly as found in Southern California). His interest in songwriting was sparked by Bob Dylan, Radiohead, Otis Redding, G. Love, and Special Sauce, Ben Harper, Sublime, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Neil Young, A Tribe Called Quest, and he cites Jimi Hendrix as his all-time favorite guitarist. He’s had a stellar career with 6 studio albums, 2 live albums, 4 video albums, 5 music videos, 3 extended plays, 20 singles, 1 soundtrack album, and 1 remix album. He’s been nominated for 2 Grammy Awards (for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals) and received many other accolades.
