The Black Crowes were formed in Marietta (Georgia) in 1984 by the Robinson brothers Chris (vocals) and Rich (guitar). They recruited bassist Johnny Colt, guitarist Jeff Cease, and drummer Steve Gorman to complete the line-up and went to work on their debut album. Over the years, their musical style's spanned many genres such as Southern rock (a sub-genre of rock music that developed in the Southern United States from rock and roll, country music, and blues, and is focused generally on electric guitar and vocals), hard rock (a loosely defined sub-genre of rock music featuring heavy use of aggressive vocals, distorted electric guitars, bass guitar, drums, and often accompanied with pianos and keyboards), blues rock (a fusion genre combining elements of blues and rock, characterized by bluesy improvisation, the twelve bar blues, extended boogie jams typically focused on the electric guitar player, and often a heavier, riff oriented sound), and American trad rock (a style – influenced by Southern boogie and blues based improvisation - dedicated to keeping the sound and the spirit of classic '60s rock alive). They’ve had a stellar career with 8 studio albums, 5 live albums, 3 compilation albums, and 26 singles. The band currently consists of Chris (lead vocals, harmonica, acoustic guitar, and percussion) and Rich (guitar and backing vocals) along with touring members Isaiah Mitchell (guitar and backing vocals), Tim Lefebvre (bass), Raj Ojha (drums and percussion), Joel Robinow (keyboards and backing vocals).
