While his musical style can be broadly classified as country, it's best described as a blend of contemporary country (a sub genre of country music that primarily draws from classic honky tonk, but also boasts all the advantages of updated production techniques and equipment, proving that pure country music can sound authentic yet modern), neo traditional country (a sub genre of country music that emphasizes the instrumental background and a traditional country vocal style), and honky tonk (a style - born in rowdy bars of the Southern United States – that features acoustic and/or electric guitar, fiddle, string bass, and steel guitar, while the vocals often draw from the so called ‘high lonesome’ sound of traditional country, sounding either rough and nasal or smooth and clear).
